Historic Wynant House gets new roof

Korellis Roofing, Inc. of Hammond, Indiana, recently donated labor and materials to re-roof the historic Wynant House in Gary, Indiana.

The roofing company got involved in the project after an article about the restoration project was published in The Times last summer. Company president Pete Korellis saw an opportunity to participate in a project of historical significance for the region as well as the City of Gary.

Wynant House is an American System-Build house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It is one of the few homes of this type still in existence. Wright designed the American System housing program to produce quality homes for the general public at an affordable price. The Wynant House was built in 1916-17.

The Wynant House is currently owned by The Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and is being restored by the American Heritage Home Trust, of Olympia Washington.

Wynant House is located at 600 Fillmore Street in Gary.
